[Opinions] so nicknames then
From my question yesterday, it seems the majority prefer Emerson for a boy. But one person did comment that the Em part is very feminine and perhaps a boy wouldn't like his name to be so easily shortened to Em.
So...nicknames...what do you think:
Is Em too girly?
Would Emer work?
Or Emers maybe?
Is Emery a strech?
If you had to shorten Emerson on a boy, how would you do it?

I think Em is fine. Anyway, if the boy can't pull it off Emerson has other obvious choices. I'd probably use Emer the most. I like Emery too. Mer is another option.

I'd use Merson. It's cool, different and a guy would love it - it's very blokey.

Sweet. Never thought of that one. Thanks.

To me, a nickname is a nickname. I love the name Alistair - which screams masculinity to me - but the most obvious nickname is Ali (pron. Allie), which I would undoubtedly say.If you were hoping for a stronger nickname, Sonny is always an option. Emers is a neat one, but to me, it would take practice to say that as a first response. Em would be the first short form out of my mouth.I also see Mercy as a nickname for Emerson, but that leans feminine to me.

I hadn't thought of Mercy. That would definitely work if Emerson were on a girl. Cute.

If I had to, Emers or Emery would be a good family pet name, but I wouldn't short it other than that.

I don't think Emerson really needs a nickname, but if I had to shorten it I'd probably go with Emer. It seems logical and not girlish like Em. Emers seems a bit cutesy, like Jakers for Jake or something. I know it's actually in the name-- EMERSon -- but when I see it like that I just see Emer with n S. Emery would work too, and I like it, but I'd probably go with Emer.

I guess I just like cutesy. I think Jakers for Jake/Jacob is adorable. Or Gidders for Gideon.
:o)

I would probably just call him Emerson. I do think Em is too girly. Emer doesn't sound like a name. I don't think Emery is a stretch, but it reminds me of an emery board. Every name doesn't need a nickname.

I'd use Emmers or Emery. Emer is all girl to me though I used to know an Emmett who had the unappealing nn of Emer the Steamer.

Emmers is a fun one I think.
If Emer is all girl to you, which full name is it from? Emery, Emerson or something different?Does Emer the Steamer rhyme? Or does it sound like Emmer?

Emer is an Irish girl's name in it's own right. Emer rhymed with Steamer, lol.

I like Emery as a nickname for Emerson, it is not a stretch at all.

I'd use Sonny as a nickname.

Oh, cute. I never thought of that one. Thanks.

I'd probably use Emmer, or Emory, as a pet name. It's cute and not too much of a stretch.
