There have been so many positive happenings for Philippe in the last few years. His confidence has been strenghtened by the Orlesian's support of him, and so whilst he's happy to stand at Leonard's side for now, he knows that he will be ready if and when the time comes that Orlais needs more of an iron fist, than the kid gloves Leonard leads with. He was joyed by the time spent with his niece Elsie. He'd never met the daughter of his dear late sister, but spending time with Elsie reminded him so much of what Juliette had been like as a girl, and he and Elsie have a strong bond. He is much looking forward to being an important part of the girls life from here on out. Philippe and Valentina were also happy to be able to travel to France to celebrate the wedding of his youngest sister. Philippe had not realised how much he'd missed of Cecile's life, but the woman he watched walk down the aisle had little resemblance to the 13 year old girl he always remembered her as before she left for France.
In the last 3 years Philippe has spent a lot of time trying to pass on more royal duties to his younger brother, Joseph, desperately hoping that this would force him to grow up... He's been disappointed time and time again however as Joseph invariably would be late, turn up in an addled state, or just not show up at all. Philippe has had to abandon that particular plan as he's admitted that bringing Joseph into the forefront only hightened his weaknesses rather than forced him to overcome them. Philippe is so thankful to his beautiful wife, Valentina, for being such a good friend to Diana and they have both vowed to do anything they can for his brothers wife and children. When Joseph was injured in a tournament (which Philippe himself went on to win!), Philippe hoped that this would perhaps be the wakeup call that he needed to change his ways, but he was just left disappointed by his brothers behavior once more. The stress of it made Diana go into an early labour and he and Valentina spent a tense few hours praying for her and the babes survival. Their prayers were answered and he was so honoured when Diana named the little girl after Valentina and himself. Diana was placed on bedrest to recover, but a heavily pregnant Valentina was more than happy to help with her little niece.
Philippe could scarely believe it, when amongst all this, one of the diplomats wives actually propositioned him! Mary-Agnes is a woman whom Philippe despises as much for her taste for adultary, as for her serpants tongue and penchant for gossip. He promptly turned her down of course, he had Valentina and he would never stray from her.
The day Valentina went into labour started out a very joyous one. Valentina's labour was fairly routine and after 10 hours, Philippe held his precious daughter for the fist time. They named her Genevieve, a name Philippe loved, Valentina after her mother, Juliette for her grandmother and aunt, and Margherita for Valentina's mother. Moments after Genevieve's birth however a messanger was sent to collect Philippe to help gain control of an incident that had broken out in the market. Philippe left his wife and newborn daughter in the hands of the physician and made his way there where he discovered that a French nobleman, Jacques Martin, had been murdered. It appeared that a couple of Orlesian drunkards (no doubt friends of Jospeh's!) had taken offense to the Frenchman's elaborate airs and bloodshed had been the result. The guilty parties were arrested and sent to the prison to await sentencing by King Leonard, though Philippe would be suggesting to his brother that death was really the only suitable punishment for the two.
In the aftermath, tensions between Orlais and France grew once again. Philippe and Cecile started corresponding regularly, and Philippe told her that if her safety in the French court was questioned she must side with the French to protect herself, her family in Orlais would always love her and understand, and would welcome her home with open arms once everything calmed down again.
