Joseph seemed to be resisting change at every opporunity. Diana knew that Joseph's brothers and sisters were disgusted and frustrated with his behavior. Soon however, Diana discovered she was pregnant again. She was overjoyed to be carrying another child, but was discouraged when Joseph barely even reacted to the news.She enjoyed talking with Elisabeth and Valentina who were also pregnant.
In honor of all the new editions to the Royal Family, a jousting tournament was held. The whole Royal Family, and most of the Nobles of Orlais were in attendance. Diana was thrilled at first, because not only had Joseph shown up, but he was sober too. Joseph competed great, winning the first few rounds. However, he got too confident during one of the rounds and didn't secure his armor properly. That round ended disasterous, Joseph had taken a blow to the chest and was knocked unconscious off his horse. He was taken immediately to the Royal Physician, who pronounced him in critical condition. Even though she did not love him, due to her being in the third trimester of pregnancy, the stress of the incident sent Diana into premature labor. It was a very difficult labor, one that the doctors weren't sure Diana or the baby would survive. For a while it seemed that Joseph, Diana, and the unborn child would all be lost. Thirteen hours later, Diana gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The doctor said Diana would need at least a month of bed rest to recover from the difficult labor, but both the child and mother would live. While Diana was giving birth, the physicians worked tirelessly to get Joseph back to a stable condition. A few hours before the baby was delivered, they succeeded. Joseph would need to remain on bedrest and in the care of a physician at all times for at least four months, but he too would live.
Because Diana was on bedrest and had no way of talking to Joseph, she decided to name their daughter on her own. She chose Giannina as it had always been a favorite of hers, Apollonia after her own mother, Valentina and Philippine after Princess Valentina and Prince Philippe who have both helped Diana so much, and Juliette after Joseph's mother and late sister.
Joseph was surprisingly excited about the birth of his new daughter, however it seemed to fade because predictably right after he was released from bed rest he was seen around Court drunk with his new mistress. Joseph is aware of the rising tension between Orlais and France, however he doesn't have anything against the French, especially their women. Joseph hates change and when things are tense, so he dreads the possibility of a war.
Diana has enjoyed the company of her cousin and sisters in law. She was thrilled to finally meet Joseph's younger sister Bella and get to spend so much time with her. Little Joseph gets along great with his cousins Liliane, Thibault, and Julietta. Joseph is generally a sweet little boy, however he tends to show signs of jealousy when Diana pays too much attention to Gia. While already undeniably pretty, Gia is a very fussy baby. Already she is intent on getting what she wants and doing whatever it takes, including throwing temper tantrums. Diana loves her daughter, but can tell that Giannina will definitely cause a lot of trouble as she grows up.
