Help[Opinions] Alexei / Aleksey
I've always really like the name Aleksey and I recently got my husband to agree to Alexei. Then we both realized that it might be odd having a son Alexei with a husband Alexander. I dislike naming children after living people, so it's an issue for me. And my husband isn't too keen on having a namesake. He doesn't mind using his middle name for a child, but that's because it's also his mom's maiden name.
So: Thoughts? Are they too close to be used? My husband is Alexander / Xander, never Alex. It's not too high on our list but I've been pushing it. I suppose I'll have to give it up.

I love Aleksey (its on my list) and i wouldn't think it was too close since as you said he never goes by Alex.

I like it, but I think that as a fn it's too close to Alexander.

I know an Alexei whose father was Alexander "Sasha" I don't think he was named after his father. I don't think they're too close at all. Xander and Alex or Xander and Alexei seem perfectly distant sound wise, and especially to non name nerds.

I'll take it off the list & use it for a cat instead. If someone wants to think we named the cat after my husband, so be it. :-D

I would have suggested using it for a middle name (I love the spelling Alexei in particular), but it's a great cat name as well.

Not pregnant.
Not sure where that idea came about. We're looking at names and discussing them but I have a long way to go before we start trying. (I still need to lose the weight I gained because of being hypothyroid and I'm going off my anxiety medication.)

I love Aleksi, but not so much Alexei because of pronunciation issues.

I don't think it would matter if he was of Russian descent or not. We are so globalized now. I know someone who's Indian and his name is Alexei.

Or at least, his family immigrated from there.
And I can't think of anyone who would be unfamiliar with the name Alexei/Aleksey to think it was feminine.

I have a friend who is a female Alexi. Alexei/Aleksey looks masculine though.

It will definitely seem like the kid is named after his dad. If you don't want that then don't use it.
