Nikolaus is the second cousin to the King. He was never really close with him, however. When Nikolaus was 18 he was sent to a university, where he met Alexandra who was the daughter of a prominent dignitary. Her parents wouldn't allow them to marry until Alexandra turned eighteen. Nikolaus continued to visit Alexandra, until the day of her eighteenth birthday. They were wed shortly after, and Alexandra went to live with Nikolaus in the palace.
