What does [2] mean?
Is there a reason why Monica and May had the same name options?

The [2] represents the option you choose at the beginning of the game. You had an opportunity to switch when we switched over to spouses. The 2 means the namebanks you get come from 401-410 of that particular year so that is why if you have two children of the same gender their name banks. The two children are the same age therefore same namebank.
