I'm in such a
Matilda mood at the moment. I just started reading "Queens Consort" by
Lisa Hilton about wives of medieval English monarchs beginning with the
Norman conquest. As you can imagine there are many
Queen Matildas running around the pages, along with Emmas, Ediths, Margarets, Adelaides, even an Adeliza. I can't wait to get through my current chapter on
Eleanor of Acquitaine to get to the
Berengaria of Navarre chapter! I recommend it to anyone interested in this time period. It views history from the overlooked queens' perspectives.
So your thread is really catching my eye. I love
Matilda because it brings up two images at once, in my mind at least. One is a stalwart, dig-her-heels-in and get the job done kind of person. The other is a waltzing (allusion intended) young woman in a white dress and her hair up. I love names that give me more than one feeling. and as you say the nn possibilities are many. I'm not familiar with the
Roald Dahl story, but I'm sure it's darling.
Love, love
Matilda.
All of your combinations are lovely with
Matilda Emily being my favorite. My attempts (sorry for any repeats):
