[Facts] Isai
Does anyone know the origin or mening of this name. I dont know how to pronounce it in English, but in spanish its EE-saah-ee, its a male name. I thought it may be a short form of Isaiah, but my friend, Isai, says that it's Biblical, though I'm not sure if that's correct. I read it might be some kind of variant of Jesse, but I dont know if thats true. Any help is appreciated.Thanx,
D. A.

Isai would be Isaiah minus the ah, but the difference in the pronunciation is interesting as Isaiah is pronounced eye-ZEH-ah. Isaiah is a biblical name.~SD

I just saw that JESSLYN was some time ago, so here the part once more:
JESSE is a given name today, in the Hebrew bible it is YISHAI (he was the father of King David; in German bibles his name is ISAI) and of doubtful meaning: It could mean "exsisting, alive" (referring to God or maybe to the child), or else "masculine, manly". Some try to see a short form of the name God "Jahweh" in YISHAI, others claim it is a short form Isaiah (YESHAYAHU meaning "Jahweh saves").

Just look at my response to JESSLYN and you'll know all about ISAI.
