Prince:
Darius Theodore Amadeus William (18)
Princess:
Eirian Matilda Adela Seren (18)
Question--if we start out as
Prince and
Princess, can we convert to a
King and
Queen later on?
Darius's father will be king for a while longer if yes.
Eirian is both a recent and an old arrival in the royal court. Her parents were nobles in the royal court, friends of
King William and
Queen Malina. But her father
Daniel was murdered when she was only two, and her mother
Laura fled with her. Her mother died soon afterward of grief and exposure, and a family of farmers took in the two-year-old
Eirian. She was raised as their daughter, and though she knew they had adopted her she did not know who her parents were or where they had come from. She didn't find out until just before she turned seventeen, when the prince happened to ride through her small village on his way to his mountain estate. She had always had thought she could perhaps apply to them for aid based on the fact that her necklace, the only thing seh had of her mother's, was engraved with the royal symbol.
So she traveled to the mountain estate, where she met
Prince Darius. He was at once fascinated and attracted to this bold, beautiful peasant with her strange request.
Eirian thought the prince quite handsome with his dark hair and green eyes and serious face, and was glad when he agreed to help her. They journeyed to the royal city, not realizing how quickly they were falling in love along the way. After they reached the city,
Eirian met
King William, who nearly fainted when he saw her full face. "
Laura!" he whispered. The red hair, the violet eyes, the freckles, the high cheekbones and elfin face--all echoed the long-dead lady, with the few influences from Lord
Daniel that she had had as a baby. The necklace proved it; it had been a wedding gift from Lord
Daniel to Lady
Laura, and was one-of-a-kind. Lady
Eirian had returned to her birthright, and she was restored two estates and a storeroom full of treasure, trinkets, and personal belongings of her birth parents.
Eirian heard their story for the first time, and was relieved to know that the man who murdered her father--a crazed and jealous rival--had been caught. He later killed himself rather thna submit to a life in prison.
Eirian had never expected any of it--the money, the title, or falling in love.
Darius proposed to her, and though she loved him
Eirian insisted on a long engagement, as she was still rather overwhelmed and after all had barely known the prince for two months.
Darius was quite willing to this as long as
Eirian could be near him. During the engagement
Eirian became something of a celebrity; beautiful, intelligent, witty, brave, and kind, she was universally admired. Her adoptive grandmother had trained her as a healer, for which she had a great skill, and this only added to the public's love of her. They were eager to be pleased by the prince's betrothed as well as the lost daughter of popular nobles, and they refused to see imperfections in her--her country-peasant manners were called unaffected rather than unrefined, and her sometimes-quick temper and tendency to obsess over things were seen as passion and tenacity.
Eirian, aware of her faults and unused to admiration, is uncomfortable with this hero-worship as she is uncomfortable with her unaccustomed title and wealth, but she can't help thinking it's worth anything to be with the man she loves. Their wedding was gossip for a month before it happened, about a year after they met. Important guests, some from different kingdoms far away, were invited to the wedding, but
Eirian's common-born friends and adoptive family took places of honor. The wedding was beautiful and what they had both hoped for, and neither can wait to begin their lives together and, hopefully soon, a family.
