There is a
German
singer called BATA Ilic. This sounds rather Slavic to me. Does anyone know anything about the etymology of BATA?

Bata is a Serbian nickname for
Borislav
and it can also be a short from brat (brother in Slavic),something like
Sissy
in English.

Could Bata be a variation of Batia / Bitia?

Possibly. But what does Batia mean? Is it a female name? Bata Ilic definetely is male.
Waiting for further information
