Help[Opinions] Bodhi
On another site someone said that her and her husband fell in love with the name "Bodhi" and plan on using it on their son. She said that she had a problem with no one in her family liking it. Frankly, that doesn't surprise me. Your thoughts?

Interesting...but how many people know it's a tree? To English-speaking people it's probably too close to "body".

There's a documentary about a 7 year old girl named January who has a little brother named Bodhi. The family is from California.
The daughter is one of the youngest children ever diagnosed with schizophrenia. This poor child has hallucinations of animals that attempt to do bad things to her. The animals are mostly cats and rats that she has named things like: Eleven, Tuesday, Wednesday, 99...
The whole time I watched this documentary I kept thinking that the whole naming thing doesn't fall far from the tree despite this child's severe mental illness.

I'd agree with the family, re-think Bodhi. As a three year old, it's adorable to give your kid some cutesy name, but you also have to realize kids grow up and what's adorable on a 3 year old might not work so well for a 30 year old man, especially if little Bodhi doesn't grow up to be a surfer.
Sure, Bode Miller makes it work but what if Bodhi grows up to be an accountant? Kinda surprised that during this recession parents aren't thinking more about the future for their kids. Who knows what things will be like in 21 years, but do you want to add to your kid's troubles when he's starting out by giving him a name that sounds to some rather juvenile and childlike when he's first having to send out resumes after college?
Friends of mine had the same issue w/ their family not liking the name Cody, the mom was determined use the name (this was in the beginning of the Cody craze), luckily the dad wasn't so sure and his parents convinced him Cody might not fit when the boy was older, so they named him Matthew Cody nn Cody. Now he's 18 and when he graduated high school, he was Matt. He's a rather nerdy kid who's majoring in chemistry, not exactly the kid you'd picture being named Cody.

Meh, it's a very hippie / surfer name to me. It's not terrible, but also nms.

Bodhi is a GP pleasure for me. I love it for a boy. :-) I love that is sounds "country" but is actually from Sanskrit.

I love the meaning and origin and I might use it for a mn because of that, but I don't like the sound very much.

I dislike Bodhi a lot. Reminds me of booty (as in shake, shake, shake your botty LOL) and I can't tkae it seriously.

It's OK. Unfortunatly it reminds me of Bode Miller (same pronunciation.) I'm sure he's inspired many of the baby Bodhis and Bodes out there (and the Brodies etc.) Without him I might like it, though.

I love it. And would totally use it if I were going for that more hippy kind of name "theme" with my children. Oh, and if my brother wasn't Cody and my dog wasn't Odie.

I've actually seen this name in the BAs recently in Australia and an internet friend of mine in the U.S. named her child this born last year (older sister is Zoe).
Personally, I don't like it. It doesn't seem like a real name to me based on meaning alone. I can see the appeal for some people but it isn't my style.
