[Opinions] Oisin
So, I love Oisin and my husband adores it now too. One day (hopefully sooner than later) we are hoping to have more little ones and Oisin is a definite for a boy. There is one problem: my husband doesn't like the traditional spelling. He feels he will never remember it and that it will be hard to explain to people how to pronounce in the US.
I have posted before about what version of this name to use and yet, to no avail, I cannot convince him that Oisin is best.IF YOU MUST change Oisin to something more phoenetic, what would you choose as a spelling? Osheen, Ossian or something else? Please help me figure out the best plan of action for this name that I love and spelling my husband hates.

Ossian has the merit of actually existing! Osheen could be a brand name for furniture polish.

I love Oisín. I would go for Ossian rather than Osheen. Osheen makes me cringe a bit probably because I speak Irish and it makes me think of furniture polish (Mr Sheen). I say it Ush-een by the way.

Thank you for your input!

There is a MR SHEEN furniture polish? YIKES. That would turn me off too!

While I like Oisin best, I can understand your problem (having it myself with foreign names in Croatian) and would use Osheen to make it easier on everyone.

I love love love Oisin! I think Ossian looks the best and shouldn't have too many pronunciation issues in the US.

Ossianthat's the most "correct" anglicization. I like the way Ossian looks, too. It isn't pronounced like Oisín, though-- if you want the original Irish pronunciation, I guess I'd go with Osheen. Maybe Oshin and split the difference?

I agree that Ossian looks nicest, but Osheen is the pronunciation I'm going for... Do you think Oshin looks like a bad spelling of "ocean"?

Ossian is the spelling I usually see, rather than Oisin, so I'd use that.

Do you pronounce Ossian Oh-sheen? or OH-see-an?

my gut says oh-see-an but I know it should be oh-sheen

Osheen is okay. Oisin Patrick or Padraig.
