As soon as the States got sucked into war, so did Sam. He was assigned to a field hospital in France, where he saw many terrible things and suffered through several attacks himself. For the year and a half he was gone, all he could think about was Elizabeth and their children. He kept a photograph of them in his office, wrote them weekly letters, and missed them like crazy. He made it through the war, and was able to get home for Christmas that year. It was the absolute best Christmas any of them could have imagined. And about nine months after he returned, baby Joseph was born! He was named for a fellow doctor at Sam's hospital, one who wasn't able to make it home. Sam and Elizabeth have been talking and think their family may be complete, but they may consider one more child within another year or two. With their oldest two girls teenagers now, they are beginning to think they have theri hands full enough!
