[Opinions] Doris
It's a bit old and clunky, but I've fallen for Doris as of late. Thoughts?

My sister-in-law's Yorkshire grandmother was Dorice, pronounced do-REES, which is so ghastly that Doris looks quite fresh and frisky beside it. I like the idea of a sea-name better than I like most sea names, and Doris isn't among the top contenders. I think it needs another decade.

I think it's cute and it always makes me think of Doris Day, which is not a bad association imo. I wouldn't use it, but it is sweet.

I think it is hideous but I don't see it as an old lady name. I actually have known four Dorises, who would be 17-20 now. I know of more than that though who are quite young. It is reasonably common among Pacific Islander girls, and daughters of immigrants from some Asian countries. One Doris I knew came from an Egyptian family- her brother was named Fady which is a pretty common name among Arabic families so I always thought Doris was random.

I actually have a male ancestor named Doris, so I have confused thoughts about it. But it does make me think of the character in A League of Their Own, which is always fun.

Unfortunately, I have to agree that it's old and clunky. It sounds like a grandma's name to me.

I love love love Doris! I'm also a huge proponent of Dorothy.

Yeah, old and clunky. My mother had a cousin by this name, the daughter of my previously mentioned Great-Aunt May or Mae. She was roughly my mom's age, which would make her about eighty now, if she's still alive. (I don't even know.) So to me, it's a terminally old-lady name. Of course, I'm older than most posters here, so I can remember the old ladies who had names like this, so they will always be old lady names. I understand that they can seem charmingly old-fashioned and ready for a comeback, for those younger than myself.

I can't get past the frumpiness of it. It's a shame because it could be a nice name otherwise.

I'm not sure what I think of Doris. In theory it's actually pretty sweet but it would be really weird to meet a little girl in real life named Doris.
I had a pet rabbit when I was younger that I named Doris and I've worked with a super nice woman from the Philippines, also named Doris so I have good associations but I just can't see the appeal of it.
