Josiane endures a tough childhood--though she had a wealthy, privileged life in Beverly Hills from both of her parents' successful acting careers, she and her brother were often in the care of nannies. They hardly ever saw their father, even when he was in the US, and had to deal an erratic, alcoholic mother who drank herself to a premature death when Josie was 24. Josie sublimated her pain into art, specifically jewelry. Josie had started beading when she was very young, and graduated from RISD in 1982 with a degree in Jewelry and Metalsmithing and a minor in Glass arts, she starts her own very successful jewelry making business straight out of college, which becomes a favorite with the celebrities and Josie soon becomes a household name, with her pieces adorning every neck, wrist, and pair of ears on the red carpet come Oscar time. While at a charity auction, Josie meets an up and coming filmmaker and they hit it off. He is friendly, funny, and unpretentious, preferring to concentrate on his art instead of seeking the limelight. They marry a year after meeting, and settle down in New York City with their three children.
