Dreamy and introspective, Thérèse dreams of becoming a writer, keeping her story ideas in a small leather-bound journal. Her mother and sister scold her for having her head in the clouds and not being realistic. After graduating from high school, she gets a job working for the elderly town seamstress, Mme. Aubry, and discovers that she is a dab hand at sewing and tailoring. She works on her writing on the side for several years, and one day, Mme. Aubry introduces her young apprentice to her grandson, a tall, dashingly handsome man who happened to be a self-made real estate millionaire. At first Thérèse found him haughty and insufferable, but they soon found that they both loved the arts and literature--especially Thérèse's writing, which he considered to be genius--and fell in love. Due to her new financial situation, Thérèse was able to concentrate on writing full-time, and became a successful fiction author. She and her husband had three children:
