[Opinions] Una
I love the name Una (but not Oona, which looks funny to me), but I'm curious to see how others perceive it. Do you like it? Do you think it's usable as a name today - would it be taken seriously? Or do you think people would view it as an odd or "out there" type name? What types of names would you pair it with?

I actually like Oona more than Una because it is just so kooky (I mean, how often do you see a name like Oona, that looks so outlandish and yet is a proper name? I enjoy proper outlandishness), and also I have the urge to say Una as "yoo-na", like the beginning of "unity". I think it could for sure work today. Have you seen some of the BA's on here? Anything goes.nevertheless since you enjoy Una I will work with Una.It makes me think of England and fairies and beautiful illuminated manuscripts, let's go with that. Una Philippa

I like Una, but I also like the double O beginning of Oona. I think the double o makes it stand out.

The double O always looks to me like someone's watching fireworks. "Ooooh! Aaaah!" :)

I have a character named Una Aisling. It's a fun one to say.
I like it and think it would be perceived well as long as it's Una and not Oona like you mentioned (I secretly like Oona as well, but I know it looks ridiculous.)It probably needs a longer middle name (at least longer in amount of letters) since it's so short.

I far prefer Una to Oona or indeed Oonagh. I think it's perfectly usable and a good, classic name.

I knew an Una who should be about 19/20 now. Irish, red hair, it's what I think of when I hear it. It's an okay name.

It doesn't really do much for me. It's useable, but I do think it would be viewed as "odd".

Way back in highschool, our home economics and social studies teacher's first name was Una. She was Irish but had lived in Africa most of her life. She was a very harsh task mistress! In answer to your questions.
No I don't really like it, but I don't hate it either.
Yes, I think it is usable today. When you have children named La'kei'sha, and Jaykeb - Una is a walk in the park.
Yes, I think it would be taken seriously - it's a normal name, just not one you hear very often. I don't think it is odd or out there at all.
Names I would probably pair with it; Ciara (Prn Keera), Patrick, and Irish kind of names.

I think Una looks almost as funny as Oona. I don't think it sounds pretty and if it has to be used it is only mn territory. I don't think it would be seen as a serious name.

It's ok. It's a bit run of the mill, dated to me. I don't know any younger Únas - those I know range in age from late 30s to late 70s.

I love Una. But my favorite spelling is Oonagh, so I'm really "out there." :-)

I have a good friend named Una (no middle name) and I like it. Her parents chose it for it's Latin meaning, since she's their first and only child and they also wanted a short name, since she has two last names. Una Olivia
