I've always really liked the name, but I do prefer it as a mn. Shae is my fave spelling. Shai "shy" is nmsaa.
i really like it for a girl and would pair it with a longer, girly middle name like Alessandra or Valentina :)
my favorite spelling is either Shay or Shea

I had a friend growing up, Sheena, who had a sister named Shae'lan.
I like Shae'lan (prn. Shay-lin), because I knew her before ay-names and lyn-names were "cool", and I'm pretty sure she was named after something super-Gaelic since her parents were both born and raised in Scotland.
Shaye is kinda nice, but I think it would be far cooler on a boy.

no
Shae and the sound of it are very tryndee now. Lashay, Shaelynn, Shayleigh, Shaianna, you name it. It has no substance to it. I picture a Shae/Shay as some thirty-year-old woman whose real name was Sharon or Shannon and then she started dyeing her hair, got breast implants and started waiting tables in a rave club and needed a new name to go with her new image.

I don't think I'd ever use it, but I like it well enough. I tend to dislike "modern" names, so if I were going to use it I'd probably go with the spelling Shea, which has some more legitimacy as an Anglicized form of an Irish name.
I like Shay better.
