I am definitely more familiar with your pronunciation. I also admit to purposefully liking to say it "sa-LOME", like the word "shalom". But I know that is incorrect. It's a GP pronunciation :)
I think that most people will probably mispronounce it as "sa-LOME" until you correct them; most english speakers aren't too well-versed on the "long-e" endings. They'll think it's said like "home" I bet.
