Kalea Valerian Hollins-Schultz
Kalea has dark brown hair, medium tan skin and blue-green eyes that are medium in darkness; which means her eyes aren't really pale or really dark, they are around the middle of those two.
Carl is a big supporter of Hawaiian sovereignty, and
Tempest becomes involved in it too. As they celebrate
Carl's Hawaiian hertitage
Tempest tries to become more connected to her roots as well. Growing up she did spend a lot of time with her abuela and much less time with her father's side of the family. Her parents didn't celebrate their cultures very much but every other weekend when she was younger,
Miranda and her abuela
Marta would cook traditonal food and listen to Mexican music and dance.
Miranda learned many Spanish words but never learned to speak fluently. So
Tempest and
Carl decide to celebrate her hertiage by changing their surname to Hollins-Schultz just before their baby is born.
They named the baby
Kalea Valerian, because they both felt that the name
Kalea was beautiful and loved the meaning of happiness.
Tempest grew up with valerian growing everywhere. She knew most people view it as a weed. But what is a weed if not a resilient plant?
Valerian and dandelion and many other "weeds" are also medicinal and good for you. So valerian in
Tempest's eyes represents resilience and a healthy spirit and "weeds" are really just flowers that some people look down on, but valerian will keep on going strong. Also she chose
Valerian because she felt like it also honored her mn of
Valencia. You just replace the c with an r and put the n at the end. She always felt too attatched to her mn to actually give it to a child.
((On a side note I have been thinking all day that I wanted to use
Kalea as a fn or mn for their first DD, and miracuously it was one of the ones I could choose from.))
