[Opinions] California
Don't panic anyone, this is just a character name. The name just came to me and it fits the character to have an unusual name that she hates. She goes by Cali. However, it occured to me her parents probably wouldn't name her that. What do you think? Any other suggestions as to what her name could be? Just a note: I have no special attachment to the name California or nn Cali it just came to me so her new name could be totally different. Her father is Irish and was a famous soccer player but isn't any longer because of an injury. He lived in Ireland and his family is traditional and Catholic. He's a lot more modern but he loves tradition as well. Her mother is from Argentina and they met there. After marrying they moved to the USA, which is where they had their daughter (the one whose name is in question). In the play, she's around 15. Overall, I just can't see her parents naming her California, but I still love it on her. Thanks for your suggestions!

It could work for your character since it's a story, and some people really do have very unusual naming tastes. From your description of her father, I agree that California would probably be an unlikely choice though.Other ideas:

Assumpta - An Irish name with Latin roots.
