[Opinions] Katherine and nicknames
I've gone back to loving Katherine but I'm getting tired of the nn Kate. It's becoming so common now as the Katherine nickname of choice and "old hat". It used be Katie that you couldn't get away from and now it's Kate. What do you think of the other nicknames? Kathy, Kat, Kit or Kitty? Kathy sounds rather middle aged but it's charming in it's own way. I like Kat a lot but wonder if it would stick, same with Kit. Kitty is cute but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to use it.And finally what do you think of Katherine with no nickname? Katherine is so rarely used in full. Do you think a young Katherine could go without a nickname? Thanks,Jamie

I love Catherine but not Katherine for some reason, but that's just me. :b I love the nn Kat (or Cat), and I think it's MUCH better than Kate or Katie. Kit is kind of cute, but I'd stay away from Kitty. :-I have a step-neice named Kathryn who is 4 months old and for now everyone calls her Kathryn, mostly. But the only reason we don't call her Katie is because that's the dog's name. LOL. Her mother is Mexican/Cuban, and she calls her Katie/Kathy, the Spanish pronunciation (KAH-tee), but many of us have started calling her Kitty Kat. So she may get Kit, Kitty or Kat as a nn. :)

I love Katherine without a nn at all. I know several Katherines, and some of them don't go by a nn. They have relatively few problems with people trying to shortent their name. I really agree with on Kathy, I think it sounds very sweet in its own way. Also, I have a Katherine in my third grade class who goes by Kay.Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I'm a 16-year-old Catherine and I've rarely gone by a nickname. It was only when I started at college last year that people started to call me Cate, and that's only half of the time. People try and call me Cathy every now and then, but I just tell them that I prefer Catherine and it's fine. So yeah, a young Katherine wouldn't have any problems!

I love Katherine nn Kit.Kate is nice, but for some reason, I prefer it as a name on its own, rather than as a nickname.Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I love the name Katherine, it's classic and lovely. I think it's fine with or without a nn. I like Kate, Katie, Kathy and Kat. I would personally choose Kathy as the nn though.

I prefer Katherine with no nickname. It's such a gorgeous name all by itself. The nicknames do nothing for me.

Of course Katherine could go withought a nn! It's such a beautiful name that I think it should be used in full, perhaps with a nn heard among her family members. I think Kate & Katie are really overused! I'm begining to not like them any more!I'm not a fan of Kathy or Kat, I've known several ladies who've gone by that and I just can't help hating them (the nns I mean).I love Kit as a nn! It's so cute! I think a little girl named Katherine should mostly use her full name and in the loving privacy of her home sometimes be called Kitty or Kit. Kitty more when she's younger and Kit more when she grows up. I love using full names! :)Image hosted by Photobucket.comBunny, Gigi, Chloris, Wilma, Darleen, Eartha

I prefer the nns Kate or Katie, I can't stand Kathy, Kit or anything like that. I actually like Katherine without a nn. My cousin's name is Catherine and thats what everyone calls her, if anyone tries to call her Cathy her mum (my sil) says "no, its Catherine".

I LOVE Katherine and Kate, but Kate and Katie are very popular, yes.I really hate Kathy, Kit, and Kitty.Katherine in full is great. IF she was always introduced as Katherine, and anyone who called her a nickname was corrected, it would be fine.Other nicknames for Katherine:
Kata
Kit
Rina (from Katarina)
Kaia / Kaija /Kaja (KY-ah)
Kara
Kassia
Katinka
Katja
Katya
Katrin

I love Katherine but prefer Catherine
Where I live Katie and Kate are more comman as first names than Katherine
Kit and Kitty for Katherine are nice
My Daughter Catherine once she was old enough to chose told us she preferred to be known by her full name rather than Catie or Cate, as there was a girl with the full name of Katie in her class when she started school, now if any of her freinds hear us calling her Catie they give us strange looks as to them she has always been Catherine,
I didnt want Catherine to have a nickname but her cousins called her Cathy when she was first born which I hate,So I told them to use either Cat Cate or Catie
