Joseph Taddeo is a seven-year-old Italian-American boy. After his parents were divorced and his mother wanted to marry again, neither his father nor his stepfather want anything to do with him. He is slightly hurt by this, but resumes being the cheerful sort he is. Joey loves to listen to music (his mother reportedly state that his first sentence was "'Cause fis is Friller") and is known to be a very fast runner.
Katherine Opal is Joey's nine-year-old sister. She, unlike him, is much more quiet and prefers to read in peace rather than sprint away. She loves nature, and wants to be an artist, drawing pictures of leaves and landscapes often (and it is notable that her drawing was more than doodles). Kathy loves her brother very much, but sometimes can't stand his hyper moods.
