I've never actually known an Alice who isn't just called Alice.
Most of the names I like don't really lend themselves to nicknames, and the ones that do have nicknames I like, generally. Jacob is probably the only exception-- I hate the NN Jake. I would probably either just use it as a MN, or really insist he was only called Jacob.
