Help[Opinions] WDYTO Sophie?
I have actually fallen for another common name... but this time, I might consider it. But, oh dear- it's 74 on the American popularity list for 2008, and seems to be rising. Ugh- it's been happening to a lot of people lately, it seems. But nevertheless, WDYTO Sophie (on its own)?

I think it's a sweet name. I definitely prefer it to Sophia.

yawn... Not a fan... Never really liked the name and there re lots of Sofies as well... Plus, it's a nn for Sophia/Sofia which is also WAY overused right now and I'm not a big fan of nns as official names. (SO glad I didn't get lumped w/ Debbie as my "real name" because it's so not me and I quit going by it when I was 8).

Sophie is NOT just a nickname. It's a full French name. I heard of Sophie long before I heard of Sophia. To me if your going to call her Sophia, name her Sophia; if you're going to call her Sophie, name her Sophie. They're two distinct names.
Trying to say that Sophie isn't a full name, but a nickname for Sophia, is exactly like saying Claire isn't a full name, but only a nickname for Clara. Claire and Sophie are the French versions, though they are OCCASIONALLY used as nicknames for Clara and Sophia.

Way better than Sophia
People don't seem to realize that Sophie is entirely a name on it's own. It's French. It's not simply a nickname for Sophia. Sophie to me is very useable. It's spunky and elegant and down to earth. It was really popular in the early part of the century, and it's overdue for a comback. While Sophia is bland to me, Sophie never gets dull in my eyes. I'd consider it for a daughter.
