I like it, but I'd probably be more likely to use it as a mn.

Although I enjoy monkeys, the name's propinquity to "simian" bothers me.

I don't know why, but I immediately think of monkeys when I hear the name. So weird. I also think of that character on MadTV named Simeon, which doesn't help. I much prefer Simon, but perhaps because in the area I'm in, Simon is not overly used at all, so it's still fresh and quaint in a British kind of way.

It isn't really inexplicable. The word simian refers to monkeys and apes.
I dislike it. It makes me think "simian."
