I feel
Paul is underappreciated today. With more parents preferring exotic names, fewer and fewer babies are being named
Paul, resulting in a name that is surprisingly more unique than it is perceived.
And it is on the bottom of my short list if I ever have a real son. I may end up using it. Not surprisingly, my husband has nixed my first choice
Linus, and surprisingly has shown lukewarm interest towards my second and third choice,
Louis and
Calvin.
Paul is a very common middle name in my family that has never been used as a first name. Well, technically it is my Grandfather's first name, but he goes by his middle name and
Paul was originally intended to be his middle name.
The only problem I have with
Paul is, if my husband and I ever do have a son, I would like his middle name to be either
Robert or
James since my husband is
Robert James. I feel neither middle name works particularly well with
Paul, which really seems to sound best with a 3 syllable middle name that has more flair.
