I was wondering though: a place name like Èaèiæ seems to derive from a Slavic surname rather than the opposite thing (the surname deriving from tha place name). I noticed that in former Yugoslavia there's a number of places deriving their names from surnames - I think they call them 'praedial place names', but I'm not sure..
If that's the case of Èaèiæ, I think its origin is to be searched for in a Slavic root like èaèa or èaèo + suffix -ic, though I got no clue of what such a root means. Is it maybe a short form for some given name? Something like Saša, short for Aleksandar (Alexander in English)?
