You may join at any time. Everyone has a single child this round (sex up to you); if you do not want any more children, you may adopt a pet, or add extended family members, such as grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc. If you do want another child, you may also add pets and/or extended family in addition to your child, but this is not necessary.
