[Opinions] Question about nickname spelling
I'm wondering if the spelling of a nn should be taken directly from the the legal form of the name. Just curious b/c I found out that my friend Kate's real name is actually Caitlin. I never would have thought to use a K but she says its much easier than constantly correcting, or spelling it out for people. Do you guys think since nn are informal, they should go with the most common spelling?

My name is Caitlin ... I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to spell my nn. I didn't like Kate or Cate, nd even though some people have problems spelling Cait or Caitlin, going by Cait just makes sense for me. If I hadn't gone by Cait, Cate was the runner-up.

It's a nickname so there are no rulesI don't spell my nn directly from my name. It's the one thing I get complete control over regarding my name, so I spell it how I want to. It doesn't go on legal documents or anything, so I don't see why there is an issue at all. So short answer...the owner of the nn get to decide. :0)

I don't think they should go with the most common spelin' 'cause, like you Lilah, I found out just a few days ago that my best m8, Cattie (pron. KAY-tee)'s real name was Katherinem although, it makes more scense to have the nn be a part of their real name (like my cuz, Xander's nn is Andy)'cause it makes the nn easier to spell, if you no wat I mean?!Shelly Bateson xx
