[Opinions] Saoirse
What are your thoughts on the name Saoirse?
I am in the U.S, and the name would obviously have pronunciation problems here. So would you keep the traditional spelling, or spell it more phonetically? (I really hate made up spellings though)
I'm still undecided on the name, so say whatever :)
TIA!

I love this name. But I've thought about the pronounciation issue as well. Also, the first thing a kid learns how to spell is their name, and if that spelling makes 'no sense' (at least in North America it wouldn't) that would be rather frustrating. I think I would change it to Sairsha, but then I don't like changing the spelling of names...
I only recently discovered this name and I like it. I am still not sure whether I like it pronounced SEER-sha or SAIR-sha though.
Maybe if it were used on a real person, they would get some people who can't spell it or pronounce it, but hey it makes people use their brain.
I'd use it on a girl for a first or middle name. It's not too exotic or anything, but it's not plain jane either (for the USA anyway).

I'm in the U.S. and know a little girl named Saorise. The spelling definately confuses people at first, but once they hear how it's pronounced, they usually don't forget. Spelling it is tough for others though.
I like it. If you like the original spelling, I'd say keep it.

It's o.k. - it has grown on me a bit lately. It's a bit overused here (Ireland). I don't like changing the spelling of names, I'd use the traditional spelling.
What are your thoughts on the name Saoirse? I like it but on a boy, I know it's a girl's name but well I liek it on a guy, lol. I'd use it as MN only though.

I like Saoirse.
I'd either use the correct spelling or not at all. I hate misspellings.

I wouldn't use it because I dislike names that don't look like they are pronounced (in English) It would be fine in Ireland I suppose, but just irritating to me here.
I'm a fan of it, but agree the pronunciation would be a problem.
I dislike most Celtic names but I find this very nice. It's up to you to change the spelling, with Celtic names it's one of the few cases where I'm in favour of anglicized spellings, though then the problem is that sometimes they look tacky.
