Help[Opinions] Eleanor, Elizabeth and Margaret
I've been thinking over Elizabeth and Margaret a lot recently. Margaret is for my grandmother and for Margaret Atwood. I reckon that I would probably use the nickname Daisy though, or possibly Meg.
I've also been really attracted to Elizabeth after Elizabeth Bennet. Which nickname do you prefer for Elizabeth? I've been thinking about Elle a lot recently but I'm not too sure whether Elizabeth and Eleanor are too similar (Eleanor has been a favourite of mine for awhile). I'd use Nora as a nickname for Eleanor probably but I'm still worried that Elle and Nora sound far too much like Eleanor and like each other (if that makes any sense). WDYT?

For Elizabeth I love these: Betty, Betsy, Bessie, and Bess. I also love Elizabeth "Elizabeth." There is something so beautiful about it. Same with Margaret "Margaret." She's a neat kid too apparently; I don't know her that well, I only graded her papers, but she has cool friends, gorgeous handwriting, and made good grades. :P

Elizabeth Adelaide and Margaret Iris are great. I love Daisy as a nn for Margaret (or even better Marguerite).
I dislike the nn Elle and I think if you used the nn Elle it would make Elizabeth too close to Eleanor. I don't think Elizabeth and Eleanor are too close for just two sisters. If you had Elizabeth, Eleanor and Eliana or something that would be too much. I think annoying trends start once there is more than two. Elizabeth with a nn like Bess, Beth, Libby, Lizzie, Izzy, Elise, Eliza, Liza etc would be fine with a sister Eleanor nn Nora

I love Elizabeth and Margaret. I dislike nicknames for Elizabeth, though - if I were Elizabeth I wouldn't use a nickname.

I dislike Margaret because I know several women named Margaret who aren't very nice. I like the meaning, though.
How people get Daisy out of Margaret is beyond me. None of the sounds that appear in Daisy appear in Margaret. They also don't mean the same. Using Daisy as a nickname for Margaret is like naming someone Katherine and calling her Izzy. It just doesn't make sense at all and I don't like it when nicknames aren't derived directly from the name. I do like Daisy on its own.
Eleanor is lovely though I prefer Elinor. I prefer Nora on its own but it's fine as a nickname for Eleanor.
How Elizabeth is still in the top 100 is beyond me. It is a classic, yes, but has been popular for so long. Even Rachel and Rebecca are getting less and less popular yet Elizabeth is still being used. I don't really see its appeal. I wouldn't use a nickname for it at all.

Margaret actually doesn't mean daisy. Marguerite is the French word for daisy, but Margaret isn't. Just because they are related doesn't mean they share a meaning. I mean the French word for daisy is marguerite, not Margaret, and they aren't even pronounced the same.

If you'd read my post properly you'd realise this. Margaret and Marguerite both have separate meanings but come from the same roots - roots that mean pearl and daisy and therefore people use the nicknames Pearl and Daisy.

I love all three of those names. Meg is my favorite nn for Margaret, and I like Daisy as well.

I've loved Margaret since I was like 13, and that will be our future daughter's name. It doesn't particularly honor anyone for us, although we both have relatives with that name, but I think it's extra special since it would honor your grandmother, especially if you're close to her. I'm not really a fan of Daisy as a nickname for Margaret because the sounds aren't at all alike, and I love the look and sound of Margaret. How do you get Daisy from Margaret again? I forget. Meg is nice. My favorite Margaret nicknames (in order) are Maggie, Margo, and Greta. Sorry, I can go on forever about Margaret. :)

I too have really been liking Elizabeth lately. It's very plain and beautiful. And my middle name is Elyse, so it could be used to honor me. :) Elle is alright. I'm glad I've found such a fan of Margaret! So many people seem to find it dated or dowdy but I see it as a beautiful classic. Unfortunately my grandmother is no writer. She's not the most intelligent of people (very opinionated but exceptionally uneducated). It would be pretty amazing if she was a writer. You don't mean Margaret Atwood do you? It would be beyond awesome if she was my gran - I'm studying one of her novels for my dissertation right now.
As I mentioned to Joan-ay, I can't believe I didn't mention the name Libby. My sister has always gone by Libby (her full name is Sarah Elizabeth Liberty) but I often forget it. Lily would probably be my favourite but Libby's favourite name has always been Lillian so I've agreed to leave that for her.
I've thought of Elizabeth Alexandra as well but I'm leaning towards Eleanor Alexandria instead.

I absolutely adore Eleanor "Nora" and I really want to use it for a future daughter (Eleanor Natalia). I like Elizabeth too, it's too close to Eleanor IMO. Elle and Nora are cute, but together it just sounds like Eleanor or Eleanora. My favorite nn for Elizabeth is Libby btw.
I like both Elizabeth Adelaide and Margaret Iris. Very pretty. My favorite Margaret combos are Margaret Francine and Margaret Frances.

I love Margaret, although I'd use the nn Maggie. Daisy is wonderful, but I'd feel strange using it as a nn since I have no idea how the two names are connected.
Elizabeth is nice, too. I know one who goes by Beth and one who doesn't use a nn. Elle is nice; I would probably use Elise.
I also absolutely love Eleanor, with nn Nora or Ellie. ^-^ It is similar to Elizabeth, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them both. The nns are the tricky part. I'd feel awkward as an Eleanor, nn Nora, if my sister's nn was Elle. Not sure why; it just looks like Eleanor would have to share her name with Elle. :\ If Elizabeth went by another nn (or neither of them went by nns at all) I don't think there would be any problems.
