[Opinions] Pronounciation question
I really like the look of Ayla but I don't know how it is properly pronounced. I have heard anything from ay-la (as in hay) to eye-la (like Isla).
How do you pronounce it?
TIA

well... I'd guess Ayla... I know an Eila... all depends how you choose to pronounce it though...
However, there is NO such word as pronounciation... It's proNUNciation... and is pronounced accordingly... 1 of the quirks of the En. language and the word is frequently mis-pronounced leading to mispellings by various people also.

Ay-la. As in hay.
I have a niece named Ayla. We prn it AYE-lah.
To me, it has the be AY-la. It would have to be spelled Ayela (or something) to be pronounced EYE-la.
I've known 2 or 3 and they're all AY-la (rhyming with 'hay'). Eye-la is much nicer IMO but it also doesn't make much sense to me with that spelling.
It is pronounced as it looks, Ay-la. Kayla without the K. I have come across quite a few girls in Scotland called this (aged 18-25), and it has always been pronounced this way. I think it is very beautiful. Soft, elegant and unusual.
Well, I know quite a few Turkish girls called Ayla, and they all pronounce it IE-lah.
I've only met/known of a few Aylas, and they were all "AY-lah" ('ay' as in "hay"), but I could see how it could be pronounced like Isla, as well. Any way you spell EYE-lah, it's going to have pronunciation problems, though, it would seem. :b
To me, even though Ayla is not a modern or made-up name, it has that feel. Maybe because it makes me think of Kayla or Jayla. I like the sound and idea of Ayla, but it's not a big favorite.

I'd pronounce it ay-la just looking at it.
