I always loved Africa ever since I was a child I always wanted to go there, and it has a special meaning for me personally. WDYT of Africa for a girl?
ETA: Usually if I pick place names they always have some significance to me personally.

Have you ever been to Africa ? Which country is special to you or which place ? I always loved Alexandria but it has been a bit trendy in the past. I think Afrika is sweet but it makes a better middle name. I think it would be a great middle name for a simple first name as in Isabel Africa or something like that. I think it's a nice name but I would think a lot before actually using it. I don't know which connections you have to Africa but I'd ask myself things like "would i find it weird if a girl born and raised in Italy was named America ?". I mean there are girls from England named Vienna but I think with a whole continent it's quite a different story. Still Africa is a nice name and when you like it use it! Afrika is the German word for Africa, by the way.

Africa? I always thought it was a name used by black people who think people of other races are "crackers".

Really I am sick of tired of 'place' or 'word' names being called 'black' names. Also, if the name was Geneva, you wouldn't be saying that, would you? Because it's more common. Actually, I am sick of there having to be 'black' names. In a certain part of Texas, a lot of white people get 'black' names(e.g LaDonna, Chanel). That doesn't make them black. Also, I am black and I don't call everybody who's not black 'cracker'. I haven't even heard a black person call a white person 'cracker'. So please don't generalize.

i am also Black and I find that very offensive. I love the name Kenya, but if I ever used it, it wouldn't be because I'm racist. Sometimes it's just to show pride, not because of racism. ARGH!

You may have some racist comments, but we don't want to hear them.
Names are never isolated to one group of people, and though I probably wouldn't name my child this, I still think it is pretty. And btw bananarama, you can take your racist comments elsewhere. They aren't wanted on BtN.

Place names are popular as pesonal names now and in the past. Africa obviously has connection to the African continent and anyone of African decent.
But it is also a variant of Irish Aifric ("AF-ric").
I wouldn't expect you to know that it is also an Irish girl's name, it's pretty obscure. But the generalization of people of African decent in your response is really out of line. Who said only "black" people would use this name anyway?

Its not only a place name but is a form of the name Aifricso works for me as a name
It also sounds pretty and feminine unlike many other place names so though I personally aren't that fond of place names (even those with significance to a person) I think it works fine as a name :).

Just to add that I think the freinds cousin may actually have spelt it Afrika
