Jackson was her mother's maiden name, and had been given her as a mn. For reasons that will always be unclear to me, she chose at some point in high school to be called Jackson. Not Jackie, mind you, Jackson.

I don't get it, myself. I also don't understand Andie MacDowell (neé Rosalie Anderson MacDowell) or Campbell Brown (neé Alma Dale Campbell Brown) or Reese Witherspoon (neé Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon) making the same choice. Not a trend I like, no sir, not at all.
