Help[Opinions] Jackson for a girl.
My friend is named Jackie and she often gets called Jackson, she says she really likes that name and would give it to a boy or a girl i guess to honour herself. I think its differnt for a girl but i kinda like it, maybe it is just becasue im used to calling her it sometimes. What is your opinion?

I knew a girl named Jackson (and other examples)
about fifteen, no, twenty years ago (she was about twenty then). Her first name was really feminine, though I don't remember what it was, Sarah or Catherine or Mary or something. Jackson was her mother's maiden name, and had been given her as a mn. For reasons that will always be unclear to me, she chose at some point in high school to be called Jackson. Not Jackie, mind you, Jackson.
I don't get it, myself. I also don't understand Andie MacDowell (neé Rosalie Anderson MacDowell) or Campbell Brown (neé Alma Dale Campbell Brown) or Reese Witherspoon (neé Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon) making the same choice. Not a trend I like, no sir, not at all.

I wouldn't even use it for a boy (and for a girl, it would cause too much confusion)... It's a surname... and a silly trend.

Oh good, I thought there actually was a girl named Jackson. Phew.
But seriously, I don't like boy's names on girls anyway, but I especially don't like boy's names that mean "Son of" whoever on a girl.
I like Jacqueline though.

Jackson is a pretty masculine name, and it definitely should not be the given name of any female. I would much prefer Jacqueline nn Jackie on a girl, and I do not even like that name.

It's okay as a nn, but I don't like it as a real name. For a boy I guess it's okay. However I'm not that big a fan anyway. I'm really not big on jrs either.

Jack is one of the most masculine names out there (think how many 'manly' and/or 'hero' TV/film characters are called Jack) and then you have 'son' which is also very masculine. How on earth can this be remotely suitable for a daughter?

Jackson is bad enough on a boy. It's a surname and it's trendy.

I don't even like it on a boy, let alone on a girl. It's just a surname to me, and so masculine!

Ugh. Nooo. Madison / Addison / Emerson are bad enough on girls, but at least they can become Maddie, Addie and Emmy. Jackson can only become Jack or Jackie and since your friend is already Jackie, it'd be confusing.
Gah there are so many fabulous girls names, why do people think they need to look at boys names for their daughters?!
