I'm quite curious: What are your opinions on both names? What type of person would you see with each?

I like Darryl better... (w/ that spelling)
It seems more well-rounded somehow... For some reason, the name Darren immediately makes me think of a trucker... nothing wrong with being a trucker, but that's what comes to mind automatically while Darryl seems like more of an open, but well-rounded name...

Darrell is a really nice name, that I would like to use, but I know it wouldn't go over well with my family and since there are names I like just as much I wouldn't want to press the issue. I picture on young blue-collar worker, who is very down to earth but also smart.
When I see the name Darren all i can think of is Darren Shan from the Cirque du Freak books. So I picture a teenaged vampire. O.o?

I actually really like both. I have liked Darrell on and off since I met an ex's dad, who was an amazing guy, and raised a great son on his own. I don't think I'd use it due to that connection, not to mention I don't like using names in the top 1000.
Darren is the same in a since. I've liked it since elementary. While going through D.A.R.E. (drug resistant education), our mascot was a stuffed bear with a D.A.R.E. shirt on - his name was Darren. Anyway, Darren is also in the top 1000 which makes me shy away from actually using it - but I still love the name.

Darren seems like a really Australian name for me. I don't think I've ever met one who wasn't Aussie. I quite like it, it makes me think of a young blonde guy, maybe a surfer-type.
Darrell depends on whether it's on a girl or a boy. On a girl it makes me think of an Enid Blyton character, I think from Mallory Towers. Very English and traditional, oddly. On a guy, it makes me think of a 40-50ish bloke, probably a tradesman, not particularly tall. Although I would spell it Darryl or Daryl for a male, Darrell seems a bit feminine (prob because of Enid Blyton).

I think these names are cheap and downmarket and look made-up. I associate them with people who are regular guys but not particularly well-educated.
Daryl was - for some strange reason - quite a popular name for men in Australia (men of the over 50 or over 60 group). It sounds girly to me and I'm surprised!!

Darrell and Darren are both ok. With the name Darren though I picture one of the singers of System of a Down and Darren didn't sound like the greatest person
