I think Sal is acceptable as a nn, and Cy would go well too. HOwever, I do understand that it is an odd nn spelling for Silas. I would probably just use Si, it doesn't look the best, but you wouldn't be writing it down often anyway, and anyone who was, would know it's pronounced Cy.
