AdelaideCeleste sounds trashy to me. Adelaide is very sweet and pretty.

AdelaideI love Adelaide. Like others have said, the nns are great, but my favorite is Lady. Yes, Lady, but I think Addie or Ada are very cute, too.

My vote goes for Celeste. It's rather pretty and very underused. I've only known one Celeste, and that was years ago in high school. It does make me think of Babar the Elephant's Queen, but I don't think that's an association many would make.I'm not a fan of Adelaide at all. I don't think it's an attractive name, and I don't understand its popularity here.

Adelaide!Gooorgeous name with so many rad nickname possibilities (if you're into that). Celeste is nice, but not as versatile.

Eek, I can't decide!I love both of these names so much! Will Adelaide be pronounced with the French pronunciation or English pronunciation? I don't really care for the French pronunciation, so if that's the case, I'd choose Celeste. If you plan to use the English pronunciation, the decision gets much more difficult for me. Solution? Have twin girls! ;-) No, but really, I suppose it depends on how each sounds with the surname. And whether or not you would like to use a NN. Adelaide has a nice NN attached, but Celeste is pretty NN-free.

we live in australia where Adelaide is one of our capital cities... are you in australia? do you think it makes a difference?

I'm in Australia tooNot in Adelaide, thankfully. I live in Perth, and I have heard of a few Adelaide's around here and they seem to get along fine. I long ago made peace with the fact that we are going to be asked alot if she is named after the city. that I can deal with. I plan on politely explaining that Adelaide was a persons name first- in fact, Adelaide the city was named after Queen Adelaide. And what little girl is going to complain about having the same name as a queen? There are loads of place names being used these days that weren't even names in the first place, so I really don't think it's a big deal. One of my favourite boys names is Sidney, and I'd consider using Adelaide and Sidney in the same sibset. Don't think I'm brave enough though ;)One of our other posters here (causegirl) has a gorgeous little girl named Adelaide who just turned 6.
