[Opinions] Beryl
I met the sweetest woman in her 70s named Beryl. Wdyt of this name? I think it's so pretty and underused (well, unheard of...) So...wdyt? Can a little girl pull off Beryl?
(I'm not planning on ever using this, btw)

I'm afraid it doesn't sound very pretty to me at all. I just hear "barrel". :-/
Love it. Beryl Markham wrote a very interesting book, but I can't think of the name of it. Anyone? She flew a plane in 1930's Africa.
I know a Beryl in her 60's. The only weird part is she pronounces it "burl" as in Burl Ives. I always thought it was pronounced like Meryl or Cheryl.

It looks pretty on paper, but I want to prounounce it like "barrel" which just doesn't have a pretty connotation. I'm sorry.
Bah when i see the name Beryl I think of an elderly woman with too many cats and errgh just elderlyness lol... i dunno why but any Beryl ive ever known is old, its about as appealing as other elderly names like Mavis and Doris LOL not meaning to offend anyone if i have.. :S

Yeah, she could. I think it looks pretty, but I'm afraid I hear "barrel" too, so I'm not a big fan. I wonder if Chrysoberyl has ever been used as a first name!

I like it. Yes, I think a girl can pull it off.

I think Beryl is pretty but I have a feeling it is considered outdated? To me it seems like other names like Jade, Amber, Opal, Pearl etc.

I want to like it
But whenever I hear it or say it, it sounds slurred and more like an odd sound than an actual name.

I think it's really pretty too.
But somehow, when I say it outloud, I think "barrel" which isn't really bad. Barrel is just sort of neutral. Plus there are tons of names that sound the same as other words (Grant, Mark, and I'm sure there are more), and we don't really associate the name with the word.
Lol... maybe I'm just mispronouncing it. Anyway. I agree. It's pretty and underused. I think that a little girl could pull it off.
