I was always a loud child, which came as no surprise to my mother, who herself is a screeching Banshee (my father a mortal whom she seduced but cunningly disappeared soon after the encounter). My name is is Ligeia, and I was born with the power of the sonic scream.

As I mentioned, I had a great deal of trouble "keeping my voice down" as a child. My mother raised me amongst mortals because she fear that my half-mortal blood would prevent me from engaging fully in the world of superheros. She was also hiding her existence from oppressive forces in the superhero world that was working to exile all Banshees to remote forests and caves. When my mother saw that I was indeed developing super powers, she had to teach me how to use them prudently and conceal them from the rest of the world. Nevertheless, my teachers were constantly sending my mother notes saying that I could not use an "indoor voice". I remember my classmates covering their ears whenever I began to speak.

Over the years I learned how to switch back and forth between my "normal" voice and my "super" voice. I have yet to explore what all my voice has the ability to do, but I am only 23! I will soon emerge from my life as a common citizen and begin my career as a superhero. The only problem is that I am unregistered because of my mother's status. They think she is dead and no one in the world of superheroes knows of my existence. But I am driven by my mother's plight to fight for justice and equality in the superworld! Wish me luck!
