[Opinions] Evelyn again, pronunciation
Hi EveryoneYou must all know by now my obsession with the name Evelyn(for a girl). I know that it can be pronounced two different ways- EV-lyn or EVE-lyn. I prefer EV-lyn for a full name but Evie(Evee) as nickname. What are your preferences on how it should be pronounced and any other nicknames for Evelyn?

I say EV-lyn, but I think a lot of people say EV-uh-lyn. I love Evie as a nn too.

I say Ev-lyn. It can also be said as Ev-eh-lyn. I love Evie. What about Eve or Eva?An Evelyn (ev-lyn) I used to know went by Evy (ev-ee)

I say both EVE-lin and EV-uh-lin, but not EV-lin. I don't know which I like best, probably EV-uh-lin. It's a bit spunkier.

Wrong spot!I've only ever heard it said EV-uh-lin.

This is my grandmothers name. She pronounces it EVE-lyn. She hates it whenever someone pronounces it differently.

I pronounce it EVER-lynn, the 1 syllable having no eev sound in it. I love the nn Evie for Evelyn.Other nicknames...Eve
Eva
Lyn
Ever

NeitherI pronounce it EV-uh-lin. It's one of my favorites too. I'd use the nickname Evie (ee-vee, like the Pokémon). :)

Me tooI've only heard it pronounced EV-uh-lin. I love Evie and Eve as nn's, but you could always use Lyn.

Add another ditto to the pile.I love it on both a boy and girl. Evie is adorable, and I think I kinda like just E too.

Me too.EV-uh-lin, nicknamed EE-vee. Well, nn Evie on a girl. Probably no nickname on a guy. It's hard to get a masculine nickname out of Evelyn. Lyn is technically, but I think it sounds even girlier than Evelyn. And the only reason I went on this tangent is because Evelyn (m) is on my PNL, but I probably wouldn't use it.Anyway...EV-uh-lin.

Agree... it's EV-uh-lin.

I've only ever heard it prn with 3 syllables...(m)as EV-uh-lin. I much prefer it over the 2 syllable prns, which I've never heard used. I love the nn Evie :)

I tend to say Ev-lyn. I had a relative with this name and she was universally known as Ev all her life. As she was born almost 100 years ago, I can't imagine it on a baby today but I know it's becoming quite popular.I like Evie (Eevie) as a nickname for both pronunciations. If you went for the Eve-lyn pronunciation Eva could work as a nn.

I prefer the EVE-lyn pronunciation for a girl and EV-uh-lyn/EV-lyn (the way I say it is a cross between the two) for a boy (as I like the name for both) simply because EVE- seems much more feminine than EV- does.Other nicknames:
Eve
Eva
Evvie (EV-ee rather than EVE-ee)
Ev
Lyn
