Help[Opinions] Thoughts on Hattie?
It's probably not something I would use, but Hattie was the name of a great-aunt I was close to, and I just got to thinking about it today. BtN says it's a pet form of Harriet, but my aunt was just "Hattie."
It's also the name of Hattie Caraway, the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate (She lived in Arkansas.) and Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Academy Award, for playing Mammy on Gone with the Wind.
What other Hatties do you know, and what do you think of the name?

A few of my childhood friends call me Hattie as a nn for Aphrodite, but that's a long story.
I love Hattie and Harriet is even growing on me.

Hattie is a bit weird to me, and really nmsaa. I have never heard of one... I prefer Harriet a bit, and Henrietta a lot.

I love, love, love the name Harriet. I have no words for how much I think this name rocks.
Hattie is a pleasant nickname, but I think it would best suit a little girl. I like your namesakes and think this would be refreshing without being way out there--there will be enough Maddies in the world in a few years that a Hattie will fit in without being one of them, precisely.

I did know it was considered a nn for Harriet, I did not know the first female elected to the Senate was from Arkansas. My state is cooler than I thought.
Moving on....
I like Hattie soooo much more than I like Harriet. Alas, it still sounds like pet name no matter what you do with it. Seems very appropriate for a poodle yet not quite right for a human over 10 or under 55. It does have some serious grandma appeal. Other than that, it's kind of nice, but not something I would be enthused about.

I didn't realize you were in Arkansas. I live in Mountain View.
Hattie Caraway was from Jonesboro. She was appointed to finish her husband's Senate term after he died, and then she was re-elected later.
I lived in Jonesboro for a couple of years during graduate school. I worked at the Jonesboro Sun, and the P.O. issued a stamp with her on it while I was living over there so that's why I know about it.
