[Opinions] Re: "Squeal like a pig!"

Oh, wow. You must be young. That's a good thing, because in my age group, 40's, Deliverance is code, albeit unfairly, for "crazy, uneducated, inbred red-necks."
The 1970's movie "Deliverance" is set in rural Georgia. Four men from the North go camping and come across some locals. Let's just say what they subject one of them to happens in prisons across the land. It's really graphic in the movie. You may have heard the banjo music, "Duelling Banjos." That's from the Deliverance movie too.
Whenever someone wants to conjure up the worst stereotypes of Southerners they use the term "Deliverance." It's a real no-no as names go.
I can see if you didn't know anything about the movie that the name could have a Puritan-esque appeal. I love the name Vera.

I think of it too and I'm 16.
Terrible name because of that reference. I would never call that scene "really graphic" though. They don't even show it happening. The subject matter is graphic, yes, but not the scene itself.
I too love Vera, but no no no to Deliverence.
