[Opinions] Edmund vs Esmond
I have always loathed Ed- names, mainly because I dislike the nns Ed and Eddie. I grew fond of Edmund while reading Narnia. I still couldn't use it due "Ed" (I would hate hearing it if he choose to go by either nn). I then came across Esmond, a name I like almost as much as Edmond without the Ed- problem. What name do you like better? Edmund as a mn or Esmond as a first?

Edmund is sooo much nicer imo. I don't like the sound or look of Esmond at all, sorry. Edmund as a mn is a better idea.

Edmund 100%.
Esmond sounds really slimy to me, but Edmund is crisp and very refreshing. Neat meaning as well.

I adore Edmund and probably will always like it better based on my love of Narnia and of Jane Austen's hero Edmund Bertram in her novel Mansfield Park. Like you I also shy away from Ed and Eddie and since I really love Irish names I have recently fallen in love with Eamon the Gaelic form of Edmund.
Esmond is a really nice alternative too and though I like Edmund better in theory I think that Esmond might work better as a FN in today's society.

Personally I prefer Edmund but if you don't like the nn's that come with it then I would choose Esmond. Both are very pleasant.

I think I prefer Edmund, just because I don't like Esmond much at all.I prefer Edward or Edgar over both of them. I think it's completely possible to have them go without a nickname. Just make sure he's introduced as his full name. If I had an Edward or Edgar, that's all I'd call them, since I also hate Ed or Eddie.

I like Edmund. I'm not a huge fan of Esmond at all. There's another nickname for Edmund - Ned. Not sure if that changes your mind, but it's a different sound.

Ned is okay, but I would still fear he would someday decide he liked Ed, and that would make me cringe. I almost never want to use a nn because I feel the full name is always better. Edmund is the only name that I refuse to use due to the nn because I simply cannot stand it.

Gotcha. I'm the same way - I have this irrational hate for the nicknames Ed/Eddie and Bob/Bobby.

I prefer Esmond. I used to like Edmund, but I think I was put off of it because it sounded heavy.

I would probably Edmund as a middle name because I'm not really fond of Esmond. I don't like Ed or Eddie either, but I love Edmund and Edward as a whole name.

Esmond is more handsome sounding. It has more of romantic feel to it.

I like both, but I prefer Edmund as a first name.
