[Opinions] Arius/Arian
I met a man named Arian today. I thought the name was nice. In looking it up, I found it is an Arabic surname of unknown meaning. It might be related to Arius, an ancient Greek Christian theologian. WDYT of either Arian or Arius?

Arian /Arijan (Ariana) is a common enough name here, not one of my faves, but I'd never use it in English speaking countries.Arius sounds like Aries to me, so not really usable to me.

I have a cousin(F) named Arion, and two days I met a guy named the same. He said it meant from the ionian sea (mediterrhennian). I Know it also refers to light, as in, unfortunately/possibly light skinned (Aryan). Many Aryan peoples of the earth have what i would consider dark skin, such as the Aryan of Persia. Persian means Per (part)- sin/sine/sino or chinese. Maybe that is why we are called CAUC-asians rather than a new race word. People ! don't let our known history prejudice you from what else we don't know!

both are good...I think Arian works as a surname, but not as a given name. I quite like the name Arius--I wonder why I have never heard of it before. I would like Arius if it is pronounced AHR-yush, pretty much like the Polish Dariusz

Arian reminds me far too much of the Aryan race. Arius sounds odd, as if you meant to say Aries and missed.

I agree with it sounding too much like the Aryan Nation. Sorry, but it creeps me out.

I don't care for Arian because it reminds me too much of the word Aryan. I like Ariel, though.

I know a little boy named Arian, prn. Ari-AHN. NN Ari. I hear the other posters about the connotation, but it's pronounced differently.I think it's strong, but subtly strong. I like it.

Arian, is too much like Aryan - so some seriously negative nazi connotations there. I do like Orion however, Arius is pretty lame sounding to me, I prefer Darius.

Arian has waaay too much of a racist connotation for me. Arius is much better, although I still probably wouldn't use it just from principle, considering he was a heretic. Too bad, though. They both have a good sound.

I don't like ius names in general, and Arius is no exception. Besides it looks like the ending of some longer word rather than a full name.Arian is a no-go. It's much too close to Aryan, which, while it is a legit name, has very undesirable connotations in the English speaking world.
