Help[Opinions] Freya vs. Freyja
Freya/Freyja is slowly climbing my list, but I'm undecided which spelling to use. I like the spelling Freja, but I think that's really pushing it, and my cousin told me Freyja is 'more Icelandic' (which, I think, means that its more popular in Iceland, but could be completely wrong, as occasionally there's a language barrier =]).
Anyway, I'm leaning towards Freyja, but I'm recognizing a spelling problem. However, I don't think it's a major one... no more major then me having to spell 'Stacey...no, not -i-e, -e-y' all the time. But, which do your prefer? Freya or Freyja?

Out of curiosity, why do you think the Freja spelling is pushing it? I love this name but only really care for the Freja spelling. If I had to choose between the ones you've listed though, I'd definately choose Freya.

Freya is my personal preference, but I think Freja is more meaningful for you.

Freya any day. Freyja might be more philologically correct, or "more Icelandic" , but unless she goes to live in Iceland where her name might make more sense linguistically, she'd have to spend her life spelling out her name.
There might be better ways to honour your Icelandic roots with a name than an extra "j" :-)

I like Freyja. I do like the spelling Freja too but not so much the spelling Freya.

I love Freya (and Freja to a lesser extent), but just don't like the look of Freyja.

I really like this name too. I prefer the spelling Freya because i think it might look confusing with both "Y"s and people might say Frey-Ya with two ys. It really depends on whether you are into the personal aspect or the way the name looks written down more.

I prefer Freya. I think it works better in English speaking countries. Lots of ignorant people will end up saying Freyja as Free-ja or Fray-juh. I prefer to keep it simple.

I like the Freyja spelling. To me, it preserves it ethnic roots. Also, it's a lovely way to honour your 'Icelandic-ness'. :)

Though we live in Canada, my father was born there, and spent his first 12 years, and from 19-22 there. I'm very 'in touch' with my Icelandic-ness.
I think the way I actually say Freya/Freyja IS Fray-yah, not Fray-ah as the link says. Hmm... maybe Freyja is the better spelling for how I want it said. Thanks!
