I'd only use it if I lived in Ireland, or if my Irish heritage was so important that it'd make the constant corrections of spelling and pronunciation worth it. For me, it wouldn't be worth it (as a person who constantly spells out her name). For a mn, I'd avoid a 2 syllable name.

I've always seen it as somewhat of a sad name, but you should take that with a grain of salt. My favorite female name is Ophelia... definitely a sad story there.

Although...Deirdre Mireille is a delightful tongue-twister, and Deirdre Sybella is lovely. Hmm, gosh, now I think it's growing on me!

Love it. It's one of those sleeper classics that could come back easily. The folklore aspect is very romantic. The "DEER-dra" pronunciation is the only one I like too.
