Another way to pick a name is to go by the meaning. For example, my American first name means "pure" or "chaste", and my middle name means "beautiful". I wanted a Chinese name, so I chose Mei Zhen, which this site says means "beautiful" and "chaste". So it has the same meaning, although different sounds. I read somewhere that "ting" means "graceful", so you could pick an American name that means graceful, such as Ann (pronounced an), Anna (AN-uh), Hannah (HAN-uh), Anita (uh-NEE-tuh), or any other derivative of the name Ann (there are lots). If you're young, Anna and Hannah are probably two of the most popular ones right now. If you know what "yan" means you could do the same thing for that name too.
