I think Astrid is an unappreciated gem of a name, but then again, I'm a sucker for all those lovely Scandinavian names. :) The name really tickles my knees!
I pronounce it like 'A-strid', the 'A' being stressed and pronounced as the 'A' in apple (I have a southern U.S. accent, BTW).

I pronounce it the same way also (without the accent). I love the name Astrid, and first fell in love with it when I read a story with a character with that name. I picture it mostly on women in their 40s and such but I've always liked it on girls.
